kakihara <3

My boyfriend is all about Japan. He lived there in the first part of this year and I must say, my intake of ramen and takoyaki has doubled since meeting him. He showed me this movie Ichi The Killer the other night and between the gore, rape and torture there was this heavenly scene as gangleader Kakihara runs in slow motion across a rooftop, wearing a holographic pink and aqua suit over a heavily sequinned lace shirt. The suit moved like a shiny lava lamp.
It spoke to me. Seriously.

payday

As the warmer weather (and a holiday in sunny Perth) draw closer, I finally admit that I need summer clothes. It took me a while but I've crawled out of my denial cave and am embracing the heat...kindof.
See, although I was born in the peak of summer, I love winter and everything about it. Especially the clothes. So today I took the opportunity to buy some things and went to two of my favourite Adelaide stores, The New Guard and Right Hand Distribution and got my buy on. Here's what I came home with:

Fifth Avenue Shoe Repair Front Part Tee

Dion Lee Slit Tee with Sheer Back (but in black)

These two I got from the lovely Erin and Anna at The New Guard, I've blogged about them before and they are currently having their summer sale which started today. 20% off new stock and 50% off current stock. Which is ridiculous and extreeemely generous, seeing as a lot of the stuff is Dion Lee, Ellery, Arnsdorf, ACNE.....they've actually lost their minds.

Nudie High Kai Skinny Jeans in Black Black

Andy at RHD knows his denim. All the brands at his store on Ebenezer Place are high quality and pretty exclusive- he stocks Japanese jeans that you can't find anywhere else. I came from the Rundle LAX to find these babies as they'd sold out there- they're the most flattering fit and such a step up from my usual Cheap Mondays. At $265 they're definitely an investment but their Italian powerstretch will keep them form-fitting for the rest of my days. Can't wait to live in them.

I don't think summer is going to be so bad this year.

help!

These are one of my favourite pairs of heels ever. I used to know the designer but have since forgotten- anyone have any idea? I thiiiiink it might be Bottega Veneta but I'm not sure. HELP ME PUT MY MIND AT REST!

oh, lisa

I start a new second job at Lisa Ho next week. Although I liked the recent summer collection (safari inspired with lots of leopard and nude) the recently-shown Autumn/Winter collection BLEW MY MIND. Definitely the 'edgiest' collection she's ever done. Love the sheer layering and the feathers. And EVERYTHING.
Apparently Lisa based it on a fictional idea of a woman who is an art dealer during the day and....a vampire at night. Yep.

PROM THEME also has a tumblr.

Not fashion related. Home away from home.

viva vena cava

I came across a 'Wardrobe Chic' segment on the elle.com website a few weeks ago featuring Vena Cava's Lisa Mayock. I've got the girls' blog on my RSS feed and had been following it with great interest, as it showed a more personal, everyday side of designers you don't usually get to see. I recommend.

Moving on though, the Wardrobe Chic thing. Magnificent. Mayock has an amazing sense of style and already embraces things I have been wanting to throw on myself, such as mesh sport singlets and cycling caps. Now I know I can wear both things and not look ridic. THANKS LISA!
Her home decor is worth a mention as well. My new apartment has NO room for my clothes (that used to burst out of a walk-in) so she's given me some storage ideas. Check out her slabs of jewelery. I'm in love. Mmmmm.

So. Here are some of my favourite shots.

twist

I always loved the Lanvin S/S 09 blue leopard prints.

the new guard

In the past couple of months I have been lucky enough to do makeup for a store called The New Guard, a little gem of a shop here in Adelaide that has been gaining attention in fashion blogs worldwide. Anna Sergiou and Erin Skipter are the masterminds behind the boutique and blow me away with the thought and careful consideration they put into the items they stock. The palette is primarily black (no complaints here) and feature designers such as Arnsdorf, Acne, Ellery, Dion Lee, Ksubi and Fifth Avenue Shoe Repair, and more recently shoemaker Phong Chi Lai and Matina Amanita.

The best thing about The New Guard is that they stock designers that are hard to find anywhere, not just in Adelaide, and bring them all together in one place without filler and without bullshit. They've got a quiet pride in their business, and for good reason. If you don't live in this fine city of Adelaide you can head to their website and shop online.

narz

So, tomorrow I'm helping host an event with NARS makeup artist/global trainer Jeffrey Roose. He worked with Francois Nars himself backstage at the recent F/W 09 Marc Jacobs show. I am EXCITED. Training is in an hour and I can't wait to hassle him with a zillion questions.

Here's some photos of the show I speak of (its 80's town):
